Johan Van der Biest

Co-Global Head of Equity Management, Member of the Executive Committee

Johan Van der Biest is Co-Global Head of Equity Management at Candriam. Previously, he served as Head of Thematic Global Equity, having been named Co-Head in 2023 and Deputy Head in 2020. These roles were incorporated into the unified Equity platform established in 2026, which brings together Candriam’s Quantitative and Fundamental Equity teams under one cohesive structure. 

Johan has been with Candriam and its predecessor companies since 1992, managing a wide range of equity strategies with a strong focus on innovation and thematic investing. As a pioneer in thematic equity management, he has led the development and management of numerous strategies across technology, robotics, metaverse, and other forward-looking sectors. His deep understanding of financial markets is complemented by his experience across multiple asset classes, including equity, bond, and balanced portfolios. 

He holds a degree in Commercial Engineering with a specialisation in Finance from the Catholic University of Louvain (KUL).
